The Historic Route 66

Route 66, also known as the "Mother Road" or "Main Street of America," was one of the original highways in the U.S. Highway System. Established in 1926, it originally ran from Chicago, Illinois through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona before ending in Santa Monica, California, covering 2,448 miles.

Route 66 served as a major path for those who migrated west, especially during the Dust Bowl of the 1930s. It supported the economies of the communities through which it passed, becoming a symbol of opportunity and freedom.

Although officially removed from the U.S. Highway System in 1985, Route 66 remains one of the most famous roads in America, celebrated in popular culture through songs, television shows, and literature.
